Verse of the Day Micah 6 8 with Dave Miers

Micah 6:8

He has told you, O man, what is good;

    and what does the Lord require of you

but to do justice, and to love kindness,

    and to walk humbly with your God?

This was an important word for God’s people in the time of the Old Testament prophet Micah. They were doing the opposite of those things and kind of banking on just throwing out a sacrifice in the hope that that would make them acceptable before God.

And God is saying, “I want you. I want you to love me. I want you to honour me. I want you to do what is good and do what is right.” An incredible word for them then and an incredible word for us now as well.

The reality is we’ve failed to live out those things perfectly. And so as we look to Jesus, we see the one who has perfectly embraced justice, kindness, and humble obedience toward his Father.

And the good news is that the obedience of Jesus took him all the way to the cross, death upon the cross, where Jesus kind of dies the death that we deserve for our failure to embrace justice, kindness, and humility.

And so we thank God that Jesus has perfectly lived Micah 6:8. And we are now free to pursue those three truths in our own lives from a place of freedom because Jesus has won us by living that way and fills us with his Spirit, enabling us by his grace to please the Lord and do what is right.

And so embrace justice, kindness, and humility today in Christ Jesus.
