Where Are You Staying? – by Eliezer Gonzalez

As Jesus was walking along one day, he realised that there were two men following him. So he turned around and said to them,

“What do you want?”

They said, “Rabbi” (which means “Teacher”), “where are you staying?”

“Come,” he replied, “and you will see.” – John 1:37–39.

This is a very interesting exchange. The two men did not tell Jesus what they wanted, and Jesus did not tell them where he was staying. They neither knew what they wanted, nor could they have handled the knowledge of where Jesus would take them. All that they felt in their hearts was an attraction to Jesus. All that they knew they had to follow him.

Jesus does not invite them to a destination. He invites them to a walk. He simply says, “Come.”

It is so easy for us to demand a destination. We all want to know where we are headed, don’t we? Too many people focus on some future joy, some future time or place when all will be well. But Jesus knows that the joy is in the walk.

If we are walking with Jesus, we are already there.
