A woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years, but whom no one could heal, came up behind Jesus and touched the edge of his cloak. She said to herself, “If only I touch his cloak, I will be healed. She reached out and immediately her bleeding stopped.
Jesus stopped and turned around. “Who touched me?” he asked.
Peter said, “Master, there are people crowding and pressing against you!”
But Jesus said, “Someone touched me. I know that power has gone out of me.”
The woman, knowing that she could not go unnoticed, came trembling and fell at his feet. In the presence of all the people, she told why she had touched him, and how she had been instantly healed.
Then Jesus said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace.” (Luke 8:41-48)
Has there ever been a time in your life when the Lord responded to your faith in him?
The woman in the story was at the end of her tether. As long as her bleeding continued she was ritually unclean (Leviticus 15:25-30). She could not go to a public place to worship the Lord. And the mere act of holding the hands of her grandchildren, or giving them a hug, would defile them. There was no hope for her.
That was until she heard about the miracles of healing that the Galilean prophet, Jesus of Nazareth, had been doing among the people. When she found out Jesus had just arrived in Capernaum by boat, she threw twelve years of caution aside and, with her heart pounding, raced down to the beach to intercept him.
We have all known desperation. There have been times when no-one could help us but Jesus. His power has not diminished, and he is no less willing to help us with our cries for help than he was two thousand years ago.
I have been in a hopeless situation more than once, particularly in the early days when I was establishing a relationship with the Lord. At that time there was nobody, other than Jesus, I could turn to. I am eternally grateful that each time he answered my pleas for help it resulted in an increased my faith in him.
Jesus is able to help you with your problems. Take them to him in prayer and believe he will do what is best for you in the long term. Just take a moment or two to think about the relationship the woman would have had with Jesus after he healed her. Jesus wants that kind of relationship with you. Give your heart to him and you also will experience the eternal peace and love that she did. Put your faith in Jesus and he will also give you new life beyond your comprehension.
