The ministry of Good News Unlimited is focused on sharing the Good News of salvation through Jesus Christ. However, in the difficult time of this global pandemic, Covid-19, I want to communicate to you some important information about how to protect your health. It may not save your souls, but it may save your life here and now. In the Bible, the basic meaning of the word “salvation” is “health,” so God is most definitely interested in the health of you and your family.
The ministry of GNU reaches millions of people everywhere in the world. Many of these countries have not yet been struck hard by the pandemic. These are also countries whose governments do not have the resources to communicate the life-saving messages that you need to understand in order to keep yourself and your family safe. I am sharing this information with you as a community service.
The protective measures that I am going to share with you are also based on the principles of good hygiene that God revealed to his people in the Old Testament. God’s advice given thousands of years ago agrees with the modern advice being given by health authorities. f you follow the advice in the important pandemic information that I am going to give you here, you will have the best chance of keeping yourself and those whom you love safe during this pandemic.
Even if the pandemic still doesn’t appear to be hitting your community, you need to start following this advice now, even if your government is still not telling you these things yet. You need to take this pandemic information very seriously.
I do want to emphasise that I am not a doctor. This advice is for those of you who do not have access to reliable medical advice. You should always listen to the relevant health authorities in your country.
1. Wash Your Hands
Wash your hands frequently and thoroughly. You should wash your hands many times during the day: when you come into your home, when preparing food, after using the bathroom, after touching money, after touching other people, and after touching anything outside. You should wash your hands very thoroughly for a minimum of 20 seconds with soap and water.
Although Christians do not follow the Levitical laws, God used them to teach his Old Testament people some important principles. These principles are important. God asked his people to wash thoroughly as a way of dealing with sickness. In Leviticus 15:13, God, through Moses, told the people that if a person had been sick, he should “wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in running water, and shall be clean.”
2. Keep Your Distance
Keep at least 1.5 metres of distance between you and other people at all times. Do not shake hands, hug, kiss, or touch anyone outside your most immediate family at home.
In Leviticus 13:46, God told his people that if anyone was suffering an infectious disease, they should be quarantined away from the rest of the people.
3. Avoid Gatherings of People
Do not go to any place where people may gather. That includes entertainment venues, sporting events, restaurants, bars, and cafés, as well as anywhere else where a significant number of people may be close together.
4. Protect the Vulnerable
If you have family members who are elderly or who have pre-existing health conditions that may make them vulnerable, keep them isolated in their homes. Do not visit them. Do not let your children visit them. This may be very difficult, but it may keep them alive.
5. Self-Isolate If You Have Any Symptoms
If you have any symptoms of cold or flu at all, even if it is just a sore throat, stay at home! You should self-isolate at home for 14 days.
4. Ignore the Fake News!
Proverbs 12:17 says that, “[a]n honest witness tells the truth, but a false witness tells lies.”
There are all kinds of fake preventative and treatment advice out there about simple home remedies that can prevent or cure Covid-19. Do not rely on them. To do so is to endanger not only your own life, but also the lives of others. Beware of advice on social media.
However, you should of course try to boost your immune system by all means possible.
7. Trust in God
If you have taken these precautions, then remember to also trust in God. Pray for protection, knowing that God is far more powerful than any virus. Your faith should be one that will withstand whatever may come to pass in your life.
In Psalm 34:7-8, the Lord invites you to trust him in difficult times:
“The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them. Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.”
Finally…
Please take this pandemic information very seriously. You can have the Covid-19 virus and not have any symptoms whatsoever. Even if you feel well, by following the advice I have given you here, you may well save the lives of others.
These recommendations may seem difficult to follow, however, you should do your best. Lives are at stake.
Don’t wait until the pandemic hits your community. Take action now.
