“A woman called out, ‘Blessed is the mother who gave you birth and nursed you.’

“Jesus replied, ‘Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it’” (Luke 11:27-28).

Jesus is quite clear here that the person who obeys what the word of God says, is more to be honoured than is his mother, Mary. It’s not our physical relationship to any patriarch or matriarch that makes us blessed, but our spiritual relationship with the Lord himself – a relationship that results in obedience to the Lord.
