“News about him spread so that crowds of people came to hear him and to be healed of their sicknesses. But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed” (Luke 5:15-16).

There must be a balance between input and output. If the pipe out of the tank is bigger than the pipe into the tank then it won’t be long before the tank is empty. The same applies to you: if you are constantly giving without replenishing your reserves, you are running on empty, and the result will be either burnout or a ministry that’s hollow.

It was Jesus’ habit to spend time with God every day, and withdrawing to lonely places where he could focus on God gave him the strength to carry on his work. Lonely places are often in short supply in our frenetic world. But even in the midst of chaos, it is possible to find peace when you focus your mind on God.

It is essential to spend time with God every day, reading his Word and praying about it. As you read the Scriptures, let the Spirit speak to your heart, and when he does, obey what he says to you. In this way, you will be fitted to minister to the ‘crowds’.
