Daily Good News – Accept God’s Peace Today

“As Jesus approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it and said, ‘If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace—but … you did not recognize the time of God’s coming to you’” (Luke 19:41-44)

This story is a microcosm of the world. Jesus wept over Jerusalem because, collectively, the society of that day turned its back on him. The world has done that today, as well. All the people who were assembled in Jerusalem for the Passover missed the opportunity for salvation. Instead of welcoming Jesus as their God and Saviour, they turned their backs on him, and a few days later they would shout for his crucifixion. Jesus wept that day to demonstrate God’s sadness over every lost soul.

In 1 Timothy 2:3-6, we are reminded that: “… God our Saviour; … will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.”

Jesus wept over the tragedy of lost opportunity. The people of Jerusalem missed the opportunity to be saved because they refused to listen to him and open their hearts to him.

God comes to us with his peace and salvation. Our only contribution is a ‘willing heart’. But he will not force himself on us. If, like Jerusalem, we refuse to accept him, he will leave us, and the peace he has for us will leave with him.
