Daily Good News – Resurrection – Now

Jun 6, 2015 1204

“Martha answered, ‘I know Lazarus will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.’ Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and he who lives and believes in me will never die’” (John 11:23-26).

Before Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead, he took the opportunity to remind Martha of the great truth of God. Martha did believe in the resurrection at the last day. What she needed to learn was that God’s promise of resurrection and eternal life was embodied in Jesus, standing in front of her. Because of his life, death and resurrection, they could all live forever.

Jesus was showing a new concept of life to Martha. He was introducing Martha to a resurrection that happens without a physical death: a resurrection that happens now, in this life as well as in the future. When we accept Jesus, we experience resurrection from the pointlessness of the godless life, we are freed from the misery of sin. Our lives are raised from the death of sin and we become truly alive in Christ.

Those who believe in Christ will never die eternally because they have the immortal Christ living in them (1 John 5:11-12).
