Daily Good News – The Presence of God

“Put the bread of the Presence on this table to be before me at all times” (Exodus 25:30).

Neil Cole defines ‘church’ as “the presence of Jesus among his people”; the presence of Jesus, he says, is crucial to what ‘church’ is. His presence is life; his absence is death. He is the most essential portion of who and what we are.

Exodus 33:14-16 records Moses’ words to God: “If your Presence does not go with us … what else will distinguish your people from all the other people …?” Because Moses had lived with the tangible presence of God, he was not willing to move away from the ‘mountain of God’ to the Promised Land without it.

When the prophet Nathan revealed David’s sin, the king pleaded with God: “Do not cast me from your presence…” The thing that David feared the most was living apart from the intimate presence of God.

If we are to be God’s people, we will also be people of his presence. Seek more of your Heavenly Father’s face, as an individual, a family, and a Christian community. Be blessed.
