Daily Good News – When God Forgets

“Mary, whose brother Lazarus now lay sick, was the same one who poured perfume on the Lord and wiped his feet with her hair” (John 11:2).

Why does John provide us with this insight? This must have been an event of very great significance. Jesus said it should be “told for a memorial of her wheresoever the gospel would be preached”. This means that it would have significance for every Christian’s life.

Perhaps it is to remind us that a person’s past should never be held against them. God doesn’t. He blots out our sins as with a thick cloud, and buries them in the deepest sea. He doesn’t remember our sins when they’re covered by the saving blood of Jesus. It’s not our past that defines us anymore, but our current relationship with the Lord Jesus. In spite of all that has gone before, it’s our commitment to the Lord Jesus that ultimately matters.
