“Yet you brought me out of the womb; you made me trust in you . . .” (Psalm 22:10).
Contrary to a well-documented tendency to think more of ourselves that we ought, we do not come to faith by way of our intellectual acumen or our good sense. The fact that we are Christians or that we belong to a community of Bible-believing, commandment keepers etc owes more to the activity of God in the world than to our discernment. As surely as Adam’s first breath came into him from God, so the life of faith issues from God’s creative work. No room for pride in God’s family.
