When Jesus and his disciples crossed the lake, a furious storm sent waves tumbling into their boat. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?
He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!”
Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid. Do you still have no faith in me?”
They were terrified and asked one another, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”
The trauma of this event sealed Jesus’ mastery of the elements forever in the disciples’ minds. Their Master demonstrated that he was Lord of all nature. He who created both the wind and the water was greater than they were. The disciples needed to remember this. Jesus, who had been building their faith in him, was disappointed that they assumed the elements were more powerful than he.
You and I are also subject to our human doubts in times of testing. It is on such occasions that we really need to hold fast to Jesus. We need not fear if Jesus is with us. When we are serving the Master no event can be greater than our Lord. If the waves tumble into our boat, it is because he allows them to.We may think he is asleep and unaware of our prediction, but nothing can take the Lord by surprise. If we belong to him, however, he will keep us safe through the storm.
Katrina von Schlegel wrote:
Be still my soul: God doth undertake to guide the future as he has the past.. Thy hope, thy confidence let nothing shake; All now mysterious shall be bright at last. Be still my soul: the waves and wind still know his voice who ruled them while he dwelt below.

Safe through the storm by Ritchie Way- Thanks for the reminder of trusting Christ. SDA. church hymnals nr. 516. All the way my savior leads me. What have I to ask beside. Can I doubt his tender mercy, who through life has been my guide. ... If we trust and obey. Christ will always walk with us through any storm. Even when he delays and we die in this storm he is able to raise us out of the deadly storm. He brought Lazarus from the dead. I know our savior is able, because he is always with us we die with him. We shall be raised through him. Romans 6.7 Love in Christ Pauline
