Step/Week 12, Day 1 – Give and Yes: God First—Always!
May 6, 2020 1087
“Since He did not spare even His own Son for us but gave Him up for us all, won’t He also surely give us everything else?” (Rom. 8:32, TLB).
Are you “walking on air”? Has the “bounce” returned to your step? Did you ever imagine that you could get to this point in your recovery? It’s been a long journey, yet, here you are, experiencing the freedom from your addictions. God has done the miracle; He has given you the gift of being able to live the life He intended for you all along.
God is in the business of giving gifts. He delights in lavishing His good gifts on you. Like in today’s verse, His love and concern for you compelled Him to send His Son, Jesus, to the cross. He died in your place, so that you might have a way back to the Father. You’ve already experienced His gifts of salvation, faith, grace, and your recovery. He continually outpours His gifts into your life, each day. So, to answer the question: “Won’t He also surely give [you] everything else?”, you’ll be able to answer with a hearty “Yes”, because you have experienced first-hand the loving care God shows you on a daily basis.
Having experienced the generosity of God in His gift giving, you are to model His example by becoming one who loves to give, too. Your recovery never depended on anything other than God. That is why you need to put Him in first place in your life, for the rest of your life. Your new-found heart to want to give of yourself to others is going to help you to continue on the path that leads to lifetime of being free from your addictions. That’s a wonderful, life-saving gift, indeed!

Personal Reflection: Have you put God in first position in your life? Let Him always have first place. Thank Him, today, for all the gifts He has given you. Ask Him to help you know how you can help others who are still struggling with their addictions. Become a giver of yourself to others!
