Life Recovery Devotions StepWeek 12 Day 3 – Give and Yes Share Your Victories

“What a wonderful God we have—He is the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Source of every mercy, and the One who so wonderfully comforts and strengthens us in our hardships and trials. And why does He do this? So that when others are troubled, needing our sympathy and encouragement, we can pass on to them this same help and comfort God has given us” (2 Cor. 1:3-4, TLB).

I can say wholeheartedly “Amen!” to the verses above. The apostle Paul expertly wrote all that I’ve experienced through the process of my recovery. I hope that you can see God’s story within your journey of recovery, too.

Did I once doubt that God would come through and give me the victory over my addictions? You bet that I did. I needed proof. Now, sat here writing this series of devotionals, God has given me all the proof I need. He set me completely free from my addictions and behaviour that was associated with them. By now, you’ve seen the victories, too, in your life. It’s amazing, isn’t it?

You have first-hand experience how He “wonderfully comforts and strengthens [you] in [your] hardships and trials”. He is still doing it today, when you need it. So, “why does He do this?” He wants you to give back to others what you’ve received. There are people around you who are “troubled” by their addictions. They need your “sympathy and support” as well as your encouragement, as one who God has helped to fully recovery from the addictions that tormented you for so long. You have the daily opportunity to “pass on to them [the] same help and comfort God has given [you]”. God wants you to do that!

Today, don’t pass up the opportunity to make a difference to someone who’s going through a hard time, as they walk their path to a full recovery. Remember: we worship a “wonderful God”. He has done so much for you; you can give back to others, what you have received by His loving, daily provision.

Personal Reflection: Do you clearly see the victories that God has given you? How does that make you feel? Grateful? Thankful? Overjoyed? Spend some time in worship and prayer expressing your feelings to God! Be determined to be available to those who need to hear your stories of victories from your journey of recovery. It will make all the difference to them, and you, too!
