Unlimited: Knocked Down But Not Out

We are experiencing all kinds of trouble, but we aren’t crushed. We are confused, but we aren’t depressed. We are harassed, but we aren’t abandoned. We are knocked down, but we aren’t knocked out (2 Cor 4:8–9, CEB).

If there were ever anyone who had reason to complain about their life, Paul of Tarsus would have been the one. In 2 Cor 11:23–27, he writes about how many times he has been thrown in prison, beaten, faced, flogged within an inch of his life, stoned, shipwrecked, and betrayed. He says that he has gone without sleep, food, drink, and warmth, and he has faced dangers everywhere.

Still, Paul’s faith stays strong! How do you get to have a faith like that? Paul goes on to explain that,

We do this because we know that the one who raised the Lord Jesus will also raise us with Jesus… We don’t focus on the things that can be seen but on the things that can’t be seen. The things that can be seen don’t last, but the things that can’t be seen are eternal (2 Cor 4:14,18.)

Let’s face facts. Life can be tough… really tough. It is a miracle of grace that any of us will get out of it alive!

Hold on to the fact that you will be raised with Jesus. Focus on the eternal things that can’t be seen. Hold on to them by faith. The storms may rage around us, but we will always stand in the victory of Christ.

Eli’s Reflection: The fact that you are reading this means that you haven’t been knocked down either. Think of someone who needs encouragement right now, and with whom you can share your faith today. Don’t delay. That person may need your encouragement today!

thanks for word of encouragement. i once went through pain, always crying for what i didn't have an answer. but what came into my mind was that; Jesus is still alive and i will hold on my cross no matter how hard it is. i told myself that as long as my Redeemer lives, i won't die now because am not yet there, i have to declare the works of the Lord first but am not yet. I gained peace of mind and peace of heart because greater is He who lives in me than the one who lives in this world. I could have been insane or dead but because i serve the living God am alive and still running the race. May God bless you all. Amen.
