Unlimited: The Need to Rest
Dec 9, 2020 933
The apostles gathered around Jesus and reported to him all they had done and taught. Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest” Mark 6:30–31, NIV).
Jesus sent the Twelve to go from village to village, preaching and healing wherever they went. And now, they’ve just come back.
They’re ecstatic with their experiences ministering for Jesus, but they’re also exhausted.
Have you ever been so busy that you’ve missed a meal? Or two? I’ve done it sometimes, and it’s not good!
You can imagine the twelve disciples gathered around Jesus, excitedly telling him everything happened during their missionary travels.
They’re exhausted from their journey and, together with Jesus, they need to eat and rest and recover their strength. So, Jesus says to them,
Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.
God is interested in you. He’s interested in everything about you.
He does care that you’re tired. He knows that you need rest, at every level: rest for your body, rest for your mind, and rest for your soul.
That’s why he set apart one day every week for rest. That’s also why he invites you to rest in him every day.
The reality is that true rest is only found when you’re with Jesus.

Eli’s Reflection: Are you getting enough rest? Do you need to come away with Jesus to a quiet place and get some rest? I invite you to do just that. What’s your quiet place?
