“. . . How long O Lord, how long? Turn O Lord and deliver me. Save me because of your unfailing love. No one remembers you when he is dead. Who praises you from the grave?” (3-5).
These are the words of a man worn out with suffering, exhausted in his prayers. God is taking a long time to show demonstrate his displeasure with the wicked and his love for the righteous. He is ‘weary and heavy-laden.’ He is me; he is you. We want God to set things to rights well within our lifetime. It is a matter of great concern that justice should linger till after we are dead. Especially was this so for Old Testament saints who were not informed by the Resurrection. Even so, David clings in faith to God’s ‘unfailing love’ and that is what we can do—knowing that neither death nor life can separate us from it.
