“Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now” (John 2:10).

The head waiter at the wedding feast couldn’t understand it when he tasted the wine that Jesus had created from water. Never in his experience had a host saved the best wine until the end of a feast.

God also saved the best wine till last. The blood of goats and calves, shed on the altar of burnt offering for one thousand five hundred years, could not save anyone from the penalty of their sins. But, at the end of the ages, Jesus—the one foretold by all these animal sacrifices—came and poured out his blood as atonement for our sin.

Each time we partake of the Lord’s Supper, we drink the cup that represents the blood of the covenant that was poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. This is the best wine that was saved till last.
