Daily Good News – God’s Grace at Work

Jun 15, 2015 1213

“With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And God’s grace was so powerfully at work in them all that there were no needy persons among them.” (Acts 4:33, 34).

While the death of Jesus cast the apostles into the pit of despair, his resurrection from the dead exalted them to the pinnacle of joy. It was Jesus’ resurrection from the dead that validated his sacrificial death. Had Jesus not risen from the dead there would have been no guarantee that he was our Lord and Saviour, for his death would have appeared to be no different from the deaths of anyone else. This was the proof that converted multitudes of people to the Christian faith.

So what separated Jesus from everyone else who dies? It was his resurrection from the dead. He “was declared with power to be the Son of God by his resurrection from the dead” (Rom. 1:4).

But not only did the apostles bring the love of God into the lives of these people, they were also filled with love and compassion for everyone with whom they worked, so that they shared everything with them, supplying the needs of the poor and showing kindness to everyone. Thus they not only preached the gospel, but they demonstrated it at work in their lives as well. Romans 2:4 reminds us that God is love; he is constantly doing good, and his goodness leads people to repentance and acceptance of the gospel.
