“The man who hears the word and at once receives it with joy, … has no root; he lasts only a short time” ([tippy title=”Matthew 13:20-21″ class=”” showheader=”true” href=”” width=”450″ height=”120″]20 But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it;

21 Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended.[/tippy]).

Joy is a gift of heaven, but it is no substitute for endurance. Many new Christians express great joy over their acceptance by the Lord, but only those who put their roots down deeply into God’s Word will remain in that relationship.

In order to survive as a Christian make it your practice to read a chapter or two from God’s Word every day – especially the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. In these four books Jesus will tell you how to live as a citizen of his kingdom.
