“Calling together his friends and Zeresh his wife, Haman boasted to them about his vast wealth, his many sons, and all the ways the king had honored him and how he had elevated him above other nobles and officials” (Esther 5:10,11).
Wealth, power and prestige. These are the currency of every society where the values of Jesus Christ do not reign supreme If Haman has given himself to these tawdry values, so has his wife and all his friends. Thus it is today. The rich and powerful wallow in their excess—and they are given permission to do so by almost all of those who have not enough. This is why the church is, and must always be, exceptional.
