Here’s a few things you might not know about human DNA – you know, those twisty strands of chemical compounds called nucleotides that chemically define human identity:
- We share 99% of DNA with every other human
- We share 50% of DNA with bananas
- We share 40% of DNA with cabbages (God is economical!)
- Put all DNA molecules in your body end to end they would reach from the earth to the sun and back 600 times
- If you could type 60 words per minute, eight hours a day, it would take approximately 50 years to type the human genome.
Did you know that it is theoretically possible (in spite of some very significant challenges that must still be overcome, to bring woolly mammoths back into the world based on DNA recovered from mammoths frozen in the tundra of Siberia? That’s how powerful DNA is.
Throughout history humanity has tried to work out what God is like. What is the DNA of God?
People have consulted wise men, sacrificed and dissected animals, and sent smoke signals up to the sky – all with no result. These methods have failed to give humanity a clear picture of what God is like.
But God has revealed his DNA to us in the person of Jesus Christ.
Jesus said many times and in many ways that he had been sent to reveal God to humanity.
He said,
Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father.– John 14:9
Hebrews 1:3 says that,
The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being – Heb 1:3
And so as you watch and learn from the life of Jesus, you will see the very DNA of God.
You don’t need a microscope. You just need your Bible, and prayer and submission to God.
And when you see the DNA of God in the life of Christ, you will be amazed at what you discover. Because you will find that the DNA of God is…
…unconditional love
and astonishing grace.
