The Gospel Spread Through Sewing Classes – Nandiwada, India

Nandiwada women and children prepare for their sewing class.

We have started a GNU Sewing School at our Good News Children’s Care Centre. Both children from the centre and women from the community have been attending.

The children who come to the children’s centre are from a very low class in society. They are very poor and do not have anything at home. So learning how to sew is very, very useful for them so they can make money and have a brighter future. By learning how to sew they will be able to support themselves once they live alone. It is very, very helpful to their future life.

Adults from the community also come to learn. At the same time we teach them about the Good News. The classes have attracted much interest from people who don’t normally come to the centre for the prayer meetings. These people are Hindus and do not know about Jesus. They are interested in joining the classes and learning to sew. So through these classes the Good News will be spread to others.

They will be able to support themselves

We have to appoint one teacher to train the children and others who come to learn. We are planning on holding three classes per day. There will be one class from 9 am to 10:30am, one from 10:30am to 11:30am, and another class from 11:30am to 12:30pm. Since it is a hot summer, for three months the classes will be held at these times.

Lakshi, a woman who comes to the classes, says,

This Sewing School is very, very helpful and useful for our future life as well as for the futures of the young girls. It is God who has helped Pr Joseph to start this program. We all are so happy and glad to learn for our bright future. Thanks to Jesus.
