Unlimited: A Resurrection Like His

we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his (Romans 6:5b).
Christ has established the certainty of the pattern. In him, life always follows death. Therefore if we have been together with him in a death like his, then we will also be united with him in his resurrection.
It is important to understand that Paul isn’t speaking here of the resurrection of the righteous at the end of the world, although that is also secondarily foreshadowed here. Instead, Paul is referring specifically to the spiritual resurrection which the believer experiences from the reign of death and sin into the reign of grace, the moment that they accept Christ’s death and resurrection on their behalf.
We will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his.
There is a mysterious sense in which Christ united within himself the whole human race in his death and in his resurrection. This is something that only God himself could do, which is why only God could have redeemed humanity at the Cross. There have always been a few who have denied the full divinity of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. They are effectively left without a Saviour, because unless Jesus was fully God, he could not have accomplished the atonement for our sin.
Reflect on these two questions. In what ways are your spiritual resurrection like Christ’s physical resurrection? In what ways will your literal resurrection by like Christ’s? After reflecting on these questions, go into an attitude of prayer and let the Holy Spirit lead you into gratitude.
