A Kingdom of Freedom

Through Christ Jesus, the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death (Romans 8:2).

The Apostle Paul’s Epistle to the Romans is a great letter about freedom:

  • The first five chapters talks of our freedom from the wrath of God.
  • Then, chapter six talks about our freedom from the dominion of sin.
  • The seventh chapter, it is saying we are free from the law as a covenant. It is no longer a method to be used to gain “brownie points” with God and to assure us of our righteousness.
  • Then, in the following chapter, Paul says we are free from death.

God’s Kingdom of Freedom

Read the last verses of each of these chapters and we find in each case that freedom is “through Jesus Christ our Lord”. Because God’s Kingdom Is A Kingdom of Freedom!

The chief cause of unhappiness is not from outside but from inside, from unsatisfied desires and passions. The only free person in the world is one who wants to do what he or she ought to do.

When we really come to believe that God loves us and that He loved us enough to die for us in Christ, then everything changes. With that glorious faith, the Holy Spirit comes into life and He writes the law of love in our hearts so that now we want to do what we ought to do. With Christ, there is a perfect satisfaction and overwhelming joy. – Des Ford

Eli’s Reflection: Think about this statement concerning our happiness:

“When we really come to believe that God loves us… then everything changes.”

Des Ford

We tend to blame others for our unhappiness, and it is true that others are not guiltless, but Des challenges us to look inside for the root causes of our unhappiness. I encourage you to reflect on your own life and experience. How true is this for you? Could this be a revelation that lets you enter God’s Kingdom of Freedom?
