“All the people of the region of the Gerasenes asked Jesus to leave them, because they were overcome with fear. So he got into a boat and left” (Luke 8:37).
These people had just lost their source of income due to Jesus, so they can hardly be blamed for asking Jesus to leave them.
But Jesus ensured that they would be given a chance to hear the gospel by commissioning the converted demoniac to go home and tell them how much God had done for him (v. 39).
The loss of assets can be devastating, but if they open the way for God to come into our lives then, in the light of eternity, that is a small price to pay.
