“The genealogy of Jesus Christ the son of David” (Matt. 1:2).

When Jesus of Nazareth, who was born into David’s royal line, came and revealed by his words and actions that he was setting up a kingdom that would last forever, many people recognised that he was the promised son of King David (Matthew 21:9), the one whose reign would never cease (Luke 1:30-33).

All who put their full trust in Jesus become citizens of his eternal kingdom. Like the repentant felon who was crucified beside Jesus, all you have to do is ask him for citizenship and he will freely give it to you (Luke 23:42-43).
