“Pilate… released the man who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder…and surrendered Jesus to their will” (Luke 23:25).

The worst of the insurrectionists, Barabbas – a man whose name means, “The son of his Father” – was set free because Jesus died in his place. We are all sons or daughters of our fathers, and we are all guilty and awaiting the punishment for our sin, which is death. But Jesus has died in our place and we are set free.
