Daily Good News – The God of Tears

Jun 8, 2015 1223

“When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come along with her also weeping, he was deeply moved in spirit and troubled… Jesus wept” (John 11:33-35).

When Jesus came to this earth and became a man, he was fully human, apart from being sinful. So he felt all the emotions that a person feels, particularly mercy and compassion.

This is all the more powerful when we remember that the Gospel of John was written for Greeks, who believed that God had no ability to feel emotion. John’s gospel again and again portrays Jesus as providing us with a deep insight into the mind of God. Here, then, in this account of Jesus’ anguish for these grieving people, the astonishing truth would have been delivered to the Greek readers: God cares, he loves, he even weeps for us. How else would have have cared enough come to this earth to die for our salvation?

This great news of a God who cares is at the heart of the gospel. Salvation is due to God’s overflowing love for his creation.

On a daily basis, it reminds us that God made us and his heart bleeds for us. What hurts you hurts him. He really cares about the things that impact your life negatively. Just be assured that he has a solution to your troubles. The day is coming when every valley will be exalted and every hill laid low. Just be patient and all your miseries and misfortunes will be attended to in a way that will far exceed your expectations.
