God’s Highway

In those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near” (Matthew 3:1-3).
John was the one the prophet Isaiah referred to when he said, ‘A voice calling in the desert, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make a straight highway for him.’ (Isaiah 40:3).
John was a charismatic crusader, chosen by the Lord to herald the coming of Jesus to the crowds that gathered daily at the place where John was baptising (Matthew 3:1-3).
It was a great honour for John to be God’s chosen agent to prepare the way for the coming of the Lord to earth. It was his responsibility to point the people to Jesus; the Lamb of God who would wash away their sins.
John not only broadcast what the Lord would do for the repentant, he told the people what they needed to do for the Lord; they needed to remove the bends in the road so that there would be a straight highway for the Lord.
You can make a straight highway for the Lord by getting rid of all other authority figures that subjugate the Lord Jesus in your life, and by inviting him into your heart, where he will wash away your sins and bestow on you the assurance that you are his beloved child.
