What is the role of scholarship in arriving at doctrine? Some would answer, “This is like asking, What is the role of a neurosurgeon in diagnosing a tumor on the brain? Of course it is essential to go to the specialist to get reliable infonnation.” But others would respond, “Scholarship is quite unnecessary, the Bible is God’s word to man and as such has been written in a way that all may understand.
