Almost everybody has heard the name Rasputin, but very few know the meaning of that name. Rasputin’s real name was Grigory Novykh. Buthe was given the surname Rasputin by local villagers while still a youth. The name means Debauchee. Before the age of twenty he had been influenced by a heretical religious sect and accepted their teaching that sinning was a necessary prerequisite to salvation.
