Trade in Your Religion for a Relationship – by Bilyana de Soto

Multitudes go about shopping for a religion that will satisfy. Pursuing fulfilment, true contentment, joy and peace by performing religious rituals, adhering to right doctrine, or doing good deeds, as valuable as these things are, they were never intended to demote the supremacy of a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ.
Much of religion is akin to shopping for clothes. Many stores want to dress you in their particular brand. The gospel saves you from shopping for brand names. The only robe on offer is the white robe of Christ’s righteousness.
Jesus only is the power of God unto salvation. There are many kinds of knowing that leave you relatively unchanged and unenthusiastic. But truly knowing God as revealed by Jesus, and being known by Him, is the most deeply satisfying life we can live. God’s love for us is revealed in the death and suffering of Jesus on the cross.
Jesus’ power is revealed in His resurrection. All that is His is now mine because of Jesus. He is our all in all and nothing that you and I do, can add to what He has done.
By exalting human achievements, religion takes away the glory and the shine of Christ’s accomplishment on our behalf. Compared to the glorious news of the gospel of Jesus Christ, religion sounds merely like good advice.
If today you’re experiencing a restless striving to be right with God, then trade in your need for your own performance, for Christ’s performance on your behalf.
Now that we have God’s approval by faith, we have peace with God because of what our Lord Jesus Christ has done. (Rom 5:1).
