Unlimited: Faithful Prayer

faithful in prayer (Romans 12:12c).

Paul reminds us to pray but more than that, he tells us to be faithful in prayer. What does this mean?

The Greek word that is here translated as “faithful” is one that is frequently associated with prayer in the New Testament. The word is often used in the New Testament to mean continually being with a person or continually being in a place. In this sense, it means to give continual attention to prayer. This is the same as when Paul tells us in 1 Thess. 5:17 that we are to “pray continually.”

Being “faithful in prayer” means to never give up.

Our lives are full of distractions, so how do we do this? Most of us struggle trying to pray for more than a few minutes. There are many things that can draw us away from prayer, including apathy, shame, and even doubt.

God is always faithful toward us, and he calls us to be faithful toward him. We do this by being faithful in prayer. Being “faithful in prayer” means to never give up. At the Cross, Jesus didn’t give up on you. He has done everything that could possibly be done so that you might be connected with him. Now, he asks that we remain in relationship and communion with him. That is what prayer is.

Spiritual Application

Ask yourself honestly – how faithful are you in prayer? Give yourself a rating out of ten. What can you do to be more faithful?
