Unlimited: Jesus Helps Jairus’ Daughter
Apr 2, 2024 1946
While Jesus was still speaking, some people came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader. “Your daughter is dead,” they said. “Why bother the teacher anymore?”
Overhearing what they said, Jesus told him, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.”
He did not let anyone follow him except Peter, James and John the brother of James. When they came to the home of the synagogue leader, Jesus saw a commotion, with people crying and wailing loudly. He went in and said to them, “Why all this commotion and wailing? The child is not dead but asleep.”But they laughed at him (Mark 5:35–40, NIV).
On his way to Jairus’ house, where Jairus’ daughter lay gravely ill, Jesus was delayed by the crowds and by one woman in particular, whom he healed after twelve years of suffering.
And now it seems that he’s too late!
When we get bad news, the solution is simple, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.” But, of course, that’s usually much harder to do than to say.
This story shows us why we have good reasons to not be afraid and just believe.
When Jesus arrives to Jairus’ house, he was met with a great commotion. That’s because it was the custom to hire paid mourners to wail and cry and carry on.
Jesus Announces That Jairus’ Daughter Is Asleep (Not Dead)
Jesus goes into the house and announces that there was no need for all this crying, because the girl was not dead, but asleep.
Jesus didn’t see death as final, but as just a sleep. But the people there didn’t understand that, and the paid mourners, like the actors that they were, just laughed at him. Jesus then does something very unexpected. He throws them all out. And the Greek word used here implies that he did it quickly and with force.
The people there thought that they knew more about death than Jesus did. And when Jesus confronted them with the truth, they laughed at him. They didn’t understand that when Jesus is in the house, everything changes.
Jesus had told Jairus that there’s no need to fear when he is in the house. Jairus believed. A miracle is about to happen.

Eli’s Reflection: The question is: Is Jesus in your house? Do you believe?
I am Joseph Nachiye from Malawi. I am always encouraged by the Jesus-Jairus encounter. Jesus encourages Jairus to believe even though his son is dead. I am encouraged by this. It shows that Jesus has no limit. No matter the situation might be.
Thank you Blessed beautiful morning, I'm Liz from Papua New Guinea enjoy reading Good News, Words from Jesus really meaning and touching. I love reading and putting my shoes in this story of Jairus. My elder son is sick boy and I always encourage him with words of wisdom from the bible. Telling him have faith in the Lord and have strong Will Power and your sick will go away and you are new being again. Praise the Lord!

Thank you for the story of Belief. Well, I strongly believe that Jesus Christ is in my house and all my problems would be solved. For I am not afraid when my Master is in the house because BLESSINGS are bound to be in abundance. May God bless you,
