“Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done to you” (John 13:14-15).
Jesus gave us an example of serving one another, rather than scrambling to be more important than each other. Such an obligation is fulfilled only by a life commitment to putting God first and taking the opportunities he provides to help others.
It is the responsibility of every Christian to ‘bow down’ and wash the ‘dirt’ from the feet of others in the spirit of Jesus. Not only is this a symbol of providing physical help for people, but it is also paints a picture of how the Christian can be part of offering others the cleansing power of Jesus Christ and the gospel.
